Sometimes politicians who are members of this committee and other Members of the Houses are criticised when they emphasise that customers want to have face-to-face contact with bankers, and we are presented as being a bit old-fashioned because this is not the format according to which banking will operate in the future. Does Mr. O'Connell share our concern that there will be a requirement for face-to-face contact repeatedly? Does he fear, like some members of this committee, that it is the ongoing objective of banks to transfer everyone to online banking, thereby reducing the number of staff and increasing profits?
