General Scheme of the Right to Request Remote Work Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Dermot Mulligan:

I would not want to get into what argumentation should be used in front of the WRC in a dispute. I just made the point in the opening statement that the conditions that were necessary for us all to work and do what we needed to do during a global pandemic are not the same as a normal scenario.

To be clear, however, the Government is very keen that remote working would be progressed and developed. As I said in the opening statement, there is much potential from all sorts of points of view. It is to be progressed and developed and that is the policy. In many situations, however, the working environment was not ideal during the pandemic. I do not think we can assume that because everyone worked successfully during the pandemic, that could not be improved on in normal times.
