The meeting is convened for the purpose of considering the Sick Leave Bill 2022, which was referred to the select committee by order of the Dáil on 7 April 2022. The purpose of this Bill is to provide for a scheme of statutory sick leave by employers covering the existing gap caused by illness-benefit waiting days and set a minimum floor of entitlement for employees who are unable to work due to illness or injury. I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Deputy English, who is accompanied by his officials.
