All too often a planning application will just look at the site itself, such as a ring fort or a standing stone in a rural area. Particularly in some of western seaboard county landscapes, there are monuments that relate to each other in the wider landscape. There might be some standing stones but their significance is in how their geographical position relates to another site across the valley. That is not being given proper consideration in the planning process.
