I would like to step in here and say it is definitely an issue, to the point that Cuidiú is creating a programme to train our breastfeeding counsellors in trauma. This is how much we see it as an issue. We as a voluntary organisation are looking at the mental health of parents and we are going to train our breastfeeding counsellors in trauma and how to deal with it.

It is not something we would have had to do 20 years ago perhaps, but it has been coming to the fore in the last ten years or so. It is getting more and more difficult, and this trauma-informed care also needs to be part of our HSE system. I am not sure, however, if it is looking at this aspect, and yet the voluntary organisations are. Therefore, there is work to be done in this regard.
