Banking Issues in Ireland: Central Bank
Mr. Ed Sibley:
Ms McEvoy can provide more information on our approach and the protections that are in place. The Deputy is right that the protections that are in place are the same whether it is a bank or not, and expectations are effectively the same. I cannot comment on the individual circumstances because I have not seen the detail. As ever, if the Deputy has information that he would like to share, we will look at that. We have significant empathy and sympathy for anyone in that circumstance. There are protections in place for people, especially if it is the family home, in the code of conduct for mortgage arrears and what needs to take place, with repossession as the absolute last resort. There are also protections in place in the courts system.
