Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action

Carbon Tax: Discussion

Mr. Gerry Kenny:

That certainly was not our intention. It was not our intention to kill any option. We tried to put as many options on the table as possible to see what kind of feedback we would get. We were very interested in doing the consultation process because it is something we do not do an awful lot of, certainly in my place in the Department, which is to get the feedback. We were slightly disappointed with the reaction. We got 66 responses, which was low by any standard, but it certainly was not the intent to kill off any option. What we tried to do was give as much background information as we could on the carbon tax generally and its impacts and so on without trying to favour, get into or do a disservice to any of the options.
