Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment

ESB Networks: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Seamus O'Loughlin:

We had two staff fatalities in 2012 and 2013. We realised that we could not keep operating the way we were operating. An awful lot of money, time and expertise was invested in changing our culture. That is where that motto came from. I raised a point that there are stickers up all over the place that say "Never turn a blind eye". Do we really mean that or is it empty rhetoric? Are we prepared to make decisions which will be unpopular in the short term but which are in the long-term interests of the company?
