Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action

Housing and Retrofitting: Discussion

Mr. Jim Gannon:

People will charge a premium when anything is considered special, experts are advising on it, or if there is a small cohort of people doing it. We need to think about this collectively and believe in the end point where this is just what the tradesmen, engineers and architects do as a matter of course, and we should make it affordable for those who want to be able to do it. Any medium-term step will have counterintuitive impacts that we need to monitor, measure and learn from. That end point is a normalisation of this activity where there is no premium to be paid because it is simply what we do.
