Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

CervicalCheck Screening Programme Update: Discussion (Resumed)

Mr. Damien McCallion:

They may be. A woman will typically have asked a solicitor to take on the role of securing her slides for her. It is rare for a woman to come directly. It does happen, but generally she will do so through her solicitor. Whether she then chooses to take legal proceedings is a matter for her. We do not concern ourselves with that issue. We simply try to get the slides to her solicitor as quickly as possible. If the Deputy is asking whether there is a delay in any of the outstanding cases, I am not aware so it, but I am sure the issue would have been highlighted. If it is okay, I will double-check and revert to the Deputy.
