Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health
National Medicines Strategy: Discussion
Dr. Kieran Harkin:
No, most of the direct funding for the TB Alliance came from government sources, including Irish Aid and the United Kingdom's Department for International Development. Some industry expertise was used but the trials were conducted largely by Médecins Sans Frontières. The bulk of the work, therefore, was done with full public support with some assistance from industry, although the industry was certainly not the major player. Industry groups advised and assisted rather than directing and taking ownership of the project.
