Joint Standing Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands

Seirbhísí trí Ghaeilge (Atógáil): Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte

Mr. Paul Connors:

Language standards. That is correct. We are working on the basis that this strategy should complement and sit side by side with whatever language standards come in. The scheme was cognisant of the previous scheme. The previous scheme was more focused on compliance. The new scheme is focused on the five pillars and on developing the Irish language, trying to get people to speak Irish, and trying to support services. It also includes compliance with the legislation. There are a number of things we have to factor into the strategy so that it will fit in neatly with the language standards when they are introduced. We hope that we will have got a good distance forward using the strategy so that we will be compliant with those language standards.
