Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation

General Scheme of the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Bill 2018: Discussion

Ms Sharon Sterritt:

One of the provisions of the Act allows for auditors, while they are reporting or auditing their financial statements, to report to us if they come across anything that indicates a wrongdoing, a failure to keep company assets or a proper accounting of records and so forth. There is a provision for them to report to us. We have seen an increase since the Companies Act 2014 commenced. That is something on which we are working with accountancy bodies and professions. We have technical liaison groups so we are keeping abreast of changes and challenges in that area. As the director pointed out, different trends are emerging. There is an increase in financial services entities in the State. This is something I and my colleagues are keeping track of.
