I am unsure whether the witness heard the evidence presented to the committee earlier this morning. The committee is aware of and understands the well-known entity of acute Lyme disease resulting from a person being bitten by a tick. The issue with which we must deal is chronic Lyme disease and its post-infection phase. That involves the acute phase being missed, possibly because the person had minimal or no symptoms or the symptoms being misdiagnosed or undertreated. The issue of treatment and access to and accuracy of diagnostics arises in regard to the chronic phase of Lyme disease. Do the witnesses, as clinicians, accept that there is chronic Lyme disease which is, perhaps, not treated or not recognised?
