Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation

Ireland's Skills Needs: Discussion (Resumed)

4:00 pm

Dr. Mary-Liz Trant:

It is 2%. We carried out a recent pathways-to-apprenticeship review and the number is 2%. On a positive note, we were at 1% at the beginning of this year. It is a very small increase. We have gone from 151 female apprentices in 2017 to more than 300 this year. We are moving in the right direction, but much more remains to be done on that. In the pathways-to-apprenticeship review we have a number of practical actions to implement with all partners to increase not just the number of women in apprenticeships but right across the board have a full range of diverse groups and career-changers who want to access apprenticeships.
