Matters Relating to the Banking Sector: KBC Bank
2:00 pm
Ms Dara Deering:
As we said, those customers did not engage with the bank. Had they done so, hopefully the outcome would have been different from a customer perspective because we would have been able to assess their affordability. In the vast majority of cases, we have been able to put customers on a restructuring. These are customers who, year after year, do not engage, despite KBC going out to see them and offering financial assistance to go to a third party, and despite free assistance being available from the State. They continuously do not engage. It is a last resort, where we have to go through a legal process and repossess a property or put in a receiver in the case of a buy-to-let.
