Matters Relating to the Banking Sector: KBC Bank

Ms Dara Deering:

I have looked at intergenerational mortgages but we have to take some lessons from the crisis in Ireland. People will have to retire at some stage or their circumstances will change. We believe that 35 years is the right level for first-time buyers. They borrow a little bit later now because of the challenges with housing supply, so we believe it is about right from a customer perspective. For people borrowing for the second or third time as they move property, the terms tend to move closer to 25 years.
