As CEO, Mr. Verbraeken obviously knows that he does not have to wait for the Central Bank to challenge the bank. KBC could have identified the 3,000 accounts and should have given the account holders back the money at an earlier stage. Mr. Verbraeken could also hold to account people within the bank without having to wait for administrative sanctions, a very high bar laid down in statute. Does KBC have no intention of carrying out its own examination and holding bankers to account or will no one be held to account, just like in the other banks?
