I thank Ms Neary. There may be further questions for her which she can address later. I thank both witnesses for their presentations and will now open up to questions. I will prioritise members of the committee who have indicated. I ask the witnesses to bank the questions; I will take two or three members in a row and will then come back to the witnesses, if they could take note of the questions.

I might start with a question for the commissioner. Previously, she stated that the issue of friends' data being harvested when Facebook users engaged with an app on Facebook was resolved by Facebook in May 2014, when access to friends' data was restricted by a platform upgrade. The commissioner said that this followed a 2012 recommendation by her office on foot of its re-audit of Facebook Ireland in respect of access to friends' data. Why did it take so long, from 2012 to 2014, to implement that?

I invite Deputy Dooley to ask his questions.
