Farm Foresty Partnership Agreements: Discussion

3:30 pm

Mr. Joe Healy:

There are obviously many issues as clearly highlighted by Mr. Collins and Mr. Sweetman. They are dealing with them on an on-going basis. At the meeting between the IFA and Coillte a few weeks ago, it was agreed to develop principles and guidelines to strengthen communication and trust between both partners. There is obviously a very clear desire and need for both those of things to happen. We believe Coillte has a duty of care as the dominant partner and with all the experience it has to ensure the farmer has a clear understanding of the issues in all aspects of the growing process and, in particular, as I highlighted earlier, the timber revenue model and the distribution of profits. There is much work to be done and I hope that the agreement both parties came to a couple of weeks ago will be honoured. It is clear that farmers are at a loss in relation to a number of key aspects. I hope that Coillte will bear that in mind and will work with us. I thank the Vice Chairman and to the members of the committee.
