As far as I am aware no bespoke funding stream is made available either by the Government through the Irish Research Council or by social network companies to research what is going on in the Irish context. As I already mentioned, much of the work carried out by Professor O'Neill was funded by the European Commission. That tends to be where the money comes from. Many of the companies in the industry, such as Facebook, Google and so on, are represented on relevant task forces here and in the UK. The funding tends to go to initiatives in other countries however. They are very selective in respect of what they fund.
