Atypical Work Permit Scheme: Discussion
4:00 pm
Ms Edel McGinley:
There is a big business lobby and a huge amount of EU funds invested in fisheries. It is all tied up, and if that unravels, our fishing industry is at risk. It is built on the back of the exploitation of migrant workers who are being forced to work in the shocking conditions outlined earlier. We need a collective agreement. We have not yet called for a role for the ITF. It needs an enforcement role for these boats as it has an enforcement role for the bigger boats. That is key because we have problems with enforcement by NERA and the WRC. It is crucial for the ITF to have a role in this.
