It is increasingly down to pressure on beds. That is probably the major reason. One of the most disappointing things for me in my previous life was having to cancel elective lists because of the pressure from the emergency department. It is sole-destroying to have to tell a family and a patient. I used to meet the families concerned. I could tell the committee many awkward stories around it. That is the main reason. That is the pressure.
