In accordance with Standing Order 90, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government has completed its consideration of the Planning and Development (Housing) and Residential Tenancies Bill 2016 and has made amendments thereto.

I thank committee members for their co-operation and for the manner in which the meeting was conducted.

Some of us gave the staff a very significant number of amendments so I thank the departmental staff who came back to us with the information, our clerks and, in particular, the Bills Office. Perhaps the Chairman could write, on our behalf, to the Bills Office to thank them for turning the amendments around so quickly.

I will do that.

I echo that and I also thank the staff working behind the scenes all night as it has not been easy on them. It is a great tribute to the staff that some people will be working throughout the night to get the Bill ready for tomorrow.

I thank all the staff. It is not normal for us to be here at 11.15 p.m. I also thank Opposition parties and their spokespeople for working with us on a very busy schedule this week. For many reasons, it is very important that this legislation is passed before the end of the year. We flagged it a number of months ago but it is still taking a lot of time this week. I thank the non-politicians in this room among my own staff, who have worked extraordinarily hard on this and on many other legislative measures linked to housing. I thank the clerk and the rest of the team. I appreciate it as this is important legislation which will make a big difference to people's lives. We need to get it through and the staff have worked long hours to help us to do that.

I concur with those remarks. I thank the members of the committee for their co-operation and all the staff who went out of their way to help us, including departmental officials and the Minister. I thank the clerks sitting on both sides of me for the work they have put in over the past number of days to facilitate me in setting up today's meeting.

The select committee adjourned at 11.20 p.m. sine die.
