We have a quorum and will begin in public session. I remind members to turn off their mobile telephones as they affect the technology. I welcome the members, particularly those who are newly elected and also the new members of this committee. Some of those present, including me, were members of the previous committee. I am looking forward to chairing this committee, which I believe is important. Those involved with the previous committee will acknowledge it did much good and valuable work. We may not have got as much credit and praise for the work we did as might have been expected but I still believe the committee did a lot of very good work. With the new structures, this committee could be very effective in the future.

The committee will undertake to perform the functions set out in Standing Orders and report to the Dáil on such aspects of expenditure, administration and policy of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and European matters as are within the remit of that Department. I propose to go into private session to discuss the arrangements and format for today's meeting. Is that agreed? Agreed.
