European Court of Auditors Annual Report 2014: Mr. Kevin Cardiff

12:30 pm

Mr. Kevin Cardiff:

One must consider the perspectives. I have been sent to represent a group of auditors.

One can imagine that we are concerned with identifying the errors, and when we do, we report them. A couple of years ago we found quite a lot of error in the land parcel identification systems in Ireland. Maybe there was an element of bad timing from Ireland's point of view. The systems were in the course of improvement but we caught them before they had improved. The Commission found the same thing. It is not, incidentally, the Court of Auditors that looks for money back. Its the Commission and the member states that do so. The Commission put a very high number on it and I think it was €118 million or thereabouts.
