I wanted to raise a point on the Gardasil vaccine for HPV. Some concerns have been expressed by parents of children who have received the vaccine and some 860 cases have been referred to the HPRA. Can a meeting be facilitated with the parents of children who have been adversely affected by the vaccine, given that there is genuine concern? While I would always advocate vaccination in terms of public health, I would like to see that this would at least be taken on board and that a co-ordinator would be established in the HSE or the Department of Health to deal with complaints and to collate any information in regard to whether there are potential trends on this issue. To date, I have not been satisfied that the people receiving the vaccine are being informed of the potential side effects or that there is enough public awareness around the adverse effects it can have on some people. I ask that this matter be examined. I would appreciate it if a meeting could be arranged with the organisation that is advocating and raising concerns on this issue.
