There are new arrangements being put in place in relation to distressed mortgage holders. Originally MABS was created to provide a service and assist those in vulnerable situations and on low incomes to manage their money, not necessarily solely people in receipt of social welfare. The Government has announced that there is a particular role for MABS, in a suite of measures, to help people who have distressed mortgages, but they are not paying money. The Department is paying €19 billion to people; MABS is not doing that.
