Flood Risk Insurance Cover: Discussion
12:00 pm
Dr. Swenja Surminski:
Senator Barrett has referred to the new Flood Re scheme in the UK and that is a really weak spot. There is an expectation from the government and the regulator that, quite naturally, insurers would want to share risk information with their customers, but the government and the regulator do not see it as their obligation to instruct them to do so. This is why there is no formal requirement. It is a weakness because it is such an obvious first step to ensure whoever is exposed gets the information, whether from insurers or those handling flood risk, because it needs to be shared.
