Apologies have been received from Deputy Jonathan O'Brien and Senators Marie-Louise O'Donnell and Mary Moran.

At the request of the broadcasting and recording services, members are requested to ensure that for the duration of the meeting their mobile phones are turned off completely or switched to airplane or flight mode, depending on their device. It is not sufficient for them to leave them in silent mode as this will maintain the level of interference with the broadcasting system.

In accordance with the standard procedures for paperless committees agreed to by the Committee on Procedures and Privileges, all documentation for the meeting has been circulated to members on the document database. Given the number of matters to be dealt with in private session, I propose that we remain in public session and then go into private session to deal with them. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I inform members that we have important business to deal with in the retention of records Bill, a note on which was circulated to them yesterday. It concerns sex abuse cases and the keeping of records. It is very important legislation and it will be a challenge to decide how we deal with it. I would appreciate it, therefore, if members remained on for private session, as we have to decide what the committee's approach will be to the Bill. It is the pre-legislative scrutiny stage of the process. We need to decide whether we want to have a full meeting on the issue and to hear from delegates. I would be grateful, therefore, if members waited to deal with this important business after the Irish language piece.
