Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Context Phase

Mr. Simon Carswell:

In the case of Anglo there would have been corridor credits where the money was approved much more quickly than it may have been previously. In the case of Irish Nationwide there would have been some very quick turnarounds. Anecdotally, one heard stories all the time during the boom that one bank would take much longer than another and some were aggressive lenders. They could agree the deal there and then in principle over breakfast or on the building site as they were showing the bankers around the site they wanted to buy.
