Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis

Context Phase

3:10 am

Mr. Peter Nyberg:

One of the problematic issues from the beginning was the very strict timetable we had.

We had to make a choice about what we would look for and what we would not. It is well known that banks record anything that might be important with regard to what transactions are real and those which are not. If we had thought we had time to go through something like that, we probably would have asked for them. We did not ask for them for the simple reason that once we had gone through the documentation and interviews, there was no time left. It might have been useful but I do not know if it would have made a great difference. With the terms of reference we had, we did not do it.
