Preparedness for Ebola Virus in Ireland: Discussion

11:55 am

Dr. Darina O'Flanagan:

The vast majority of people who come back with a fever from these affected countries will not have Ebola. The vast majority will have illnesses like malaria and typhoid. Therefore, it is appropriate these people are assessed in a hospital, tested and the appropriate people who need care, because they tested positive, are referred to the national isolation unit. It would be inappropriate not to test these people in hospital. They cannot be properly assessed in their homes. They need to go to hospital for the appropriate investigations.
