My point relates to mediation. While in general Barnardos would support mediation as a first step in all family separation cases, there is a need to ensure that mediation is not used by an abusive partner or parent to further control and exert power over the other parent, because children get caught in the middle of that and it is really important that courts are not being used to rubber-stamp parenting agreements where that is going on.
