The first item on the agenda is the election of the Vice Chairman. This position has become vacant following the promotion of Deputy Paschal Donohoe to the post of Minister of State with responsibility for European affairs. I seek nominations for the position.

I second that proposal.

As there are no other nominations, I deem Deputy Murphy to be elected to the post. I offer my congratulations to him. I hope to have a great deal of fun and to get through good work with him.
Dara Murphy (Cork North Central, Fine Gael)

I thank the Chairman, my proposer and seconder. I look forward to working with the Chairman and the committee secretariat over the next number of months.

I congratulate Deputy Murphy. It is an important office as it is second only to the Chairman. It is also important that we encourage people to become immersed in European affairs, particularly for the future.
