The legislation says that a penalty can be imposed to the amount of the tax but it cannot exceed €3,000, if I remember correctly. That is the penalty I am referring to. If the Revenue Commissioners was of a mind to impose that penalty, the person has the right to come back and appeal it all the way up to the court.
