Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform

Bank Charges: Discussion with Central Bank and ISME

2:20 pm

Mr. Bernard Sheridan:

We have already done that and we understand changes will be made to the legislation to allow us to look back. I wish to make it clear that when it comes to charges, the big participants are not out of line with the smaller players in the market. AIB which has been mentioned has charges that are broadly in line with what every other institution is charging. If we had to consider the matter afresh, we would follow the criteria set out in the legislation. I cannot say what decision we would come to in such circumstances because it is a theoretical question. However, we would follow the criteria.
