Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals

The first proposal is COM (2012) 498, proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation (EC) No. 1342/2008 of 18 December 2008 establishing a long-term plan for cod stocks and the fisheries exploiting those stocks. It is proposed that this proposal warrants further scrutiny by way of a letter to be sent to the Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine stating that:


- the committee is keeping a close watching brief on all developments regarding cod stocks and in particular this proposal amending the Commission's long-term plan for cod stocks and the fisheries exploiting those cod stocks.
- asks to be kept informed of all developments regarding the proposal specifically regarding amendments proposing to strengthen the obligation on member states to take action where data confirms high levels of discards in certain fisheries.

The next proposal is COM (2012) 458, proposal for a Council regulation fixing for 2013 the fishing opportunities for certain fish stocks and groups of fish stocks applicable in the Baltic Sea. It is proposed that this proposal does not warrant further scrutiny. Is that agreed? Agreed.

The next proposal is COM (2012) 471, proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on certain technical and control measures in the Skagerrak and amending Regulation (EC) No. 850/98 and Regulation (EC) No. 1342/2008. It is proposed that this proposal does not warrant further scrutiny. Is that agreed? Agreed.

It is proposed to take the following together: COM (2012) 505, proposal for a Council decision on the conclusion of the protocol agreed between the European Union and the Republic of Madagascar setting out fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for in the fisheries partnership agreement between the two parties currently in force; COM (2012) 506, proposal for a Council decision on the signature, on behalf of the European Union, and on the provisional application of the protocol agreed between the European Union and the Republic of Madagascar setting out fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for in the fisheries partnership agreement between the two parties currently in force; and COM (2012) 519, proposal for a Council regulation on the allocation of the fishing opportunities under the protocol agreed between the European Union and the Republic of Madagascar setting out fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for in the fisheries partnership agreement between the two parties currently in force. It is proposed that these proposals do not warrant further scrutiny. Is that agreed? Agreed.
