Select Committee on Transport
Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 31 - Transport (Supplementary)
2:00 am
Emer Currie (Dublin West, Fine Gael)
I only have two minutes. Dublin West is not going to see the roll-out of the bus route redesigns under BusConnects until 2027. We need investment in our existing services particularly in areas with new housing growth. Hollywoodrath currently has one bus service, the 40E, and it connects to Broombridge Luas station. The bus only comes every half an hour. I get emails about congestion, bus stops mobbed with people, the visible frustration of people waiting for buses at those bus stops and the knock-on effect in the area. We are getting the extension of a bus, the 40D, which I have pushed for since I became a TD, from Tyrrelstown to Hollywoodrath in March. This typifies what is happening with new housing growth and new areas. They do not get the investment they need when it comes to bus services. We feel deprioritised because we will not see BusConnects roll out until 2027.
