Select Committee on Disability Matters
Estimates for Public Services 2025
Vote 40 - Disability (Supplementary)
2:00 am
Norma Foley (Kerry, Fianna Fail)
There is the Cabinet committee, which is probably one of the committees that is meeting most frequently in the Government. We are there at least once a month, I would say. There is the Cabinet committee but there is also the implementation group. That is chaired by the Taoiseach and on it are the various Government Departments but also nominated individuals representing people with disabilities. Underneath that again, because this is a whole-of-government strategy, each Department has accountability for various pillars within the strategy, and there are also disabled people on the subgroup they have. They have crafted the strategy in the first instance, so they are part of the implementation and, through the implementation, part of the accountability. The meeting for that is in the first or second week of December. It is 8 December or 9 December - somewhere around then. Also, each Department delivers the action plan and part of the delivery of the action plan will help disabled people, working with each individual Department, to do what they have to do.
