Collection of Farm Plastics: Discussion
2:00 am
Mr. Liam Moloney:
If you go back a long time ago, it did. Maybe 25 years ago, the recycling levy covered the full cost of the operation. We have gone with a hybrid funding model, however, because we feel it leads to better quality plastic being delivered at the bring centres. We charge the farmer by weight and it gets the farmer thinking about the quality of the plastic he or she is delivering. That is why we have gone with that funding model. If we did not have a collection charge, we would have to substantially increase the recycling levy to make up for the loss of the collection charge. We feel that would have an impact on the quality of the plastic we collect.
