Access to Work for Persons with Disabilities: Discussion

2:00 am

Ms Avril Greham:

It has already been said that remote working is invaluable. As Dr. Hassett has said, though, that can bring up other issues with positive discrimination by not making workplaces reasonably accommodating. The general feeling since the pandemic is there has been a rollback on remote working and people are being mandated back into workplaces. The solution would be to engage with DPOs. We have the lived experience. Disabled people are natural problem solvers. We are doing it every day of our lives. It is not just employment; there are other barriers. We have the solutions. Our guiding principle is "Nothing about us without us". Very often, it can feel that it is all about us, but it is rarely with us. Too often, consultation happens without remuneration. That does not happen in other sectors.
