We strongly advocate that the application be made to a District Court judge. That would be consistent with other surveillance-type legislation such as the Criminal Justice (Surveillance) Act 2009 and the equivalent of search warrants. Other warrants that impact the fundamental rights of individuals need to be issued by a District Court judge. We agree that the same should happen here.
