Before starting the business of the day, it is appropriate that this committee mentions the appalling tragedy that is unfolding in Türkiye and Syria where the number of fatalities is fast approaching 10,000. Unfortunately, that figure is most likely to rise. An earthquake is an unimaginable horror and I think that today members would want to send their thoughts to all those who are struggling in Türkiye and Syria. I hope that all nations, including our own, will do whatever they can to give assistance today, in the coming days and probably for the months and years, which will be required to rebuild following the incredible damage that has been done in the last few days.
