Mr. Alun Ceri Jones:
The cost for a publisher to store materials is not taken into account. It provides the service, the warehousing and the right kind of environment for books, games, and whatever. It generates sales through mainstream bookshops and smaller retailers that might be interested in taking stock. If a new title comes out, I give it 300 copies straight away. It may take 18 or 24 months to shift that stock but I know it will shift and it will pay me as material is sold. That kind of marketing is much more than any individual publisher in our small markets can manage on its own. It is such a massive element of work. The person producing the material does not have that much time left to promote it and sell it to retailer or audiences, in whichever way.
