Mr. John O'Connor:

It was caused by stone from quarries. People call it pyrite, but the problem is posed by sulphides. A very small percentage in the stone can cause a huge number of problems. There was a lack of awareness of the issues involved in the quarries. Perhaps in the past quarrymen, when they saw the stone, had better judgment than when it was being extracted by machines.
