As I stated to the Deputy in another joint committee, if I had known that patients were not going to be told, I certainly would have pursued it more. If I had known it was such a significant, I would have pursued it more. At that time, I was taking assurances from someone who is a senior clinician and medical director of the service who told me in correspondence that if any doubt existed, she believed it was the correct thing that people should be told and informed me that she herself was telling patients.
