Public Accounts Committee

2013 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General Appropriation Accounts 2013
Vote 13 - OPW
Chapter 4 - Accounting for OPW Agency Services

10:00 am

Mr. John Sydenham:

We are in the process of discussing the future and the State's long-term role. The Congreve Foundation has decided to remain in situ, which takes much of the pressure off us in terms of the opening of the gardens and the employment of garden staff. That area is secure. The Attorney General is involved, which is positive, and the local authority has now become involved as well. Given the location of the gardens, increased involvement at local level will be more beneficial. There is dialogue under way in regard to negotiating the long-term future of the gardens, the extent of State involvement and who the participants on the State side will be. This is being explored by the various parties and the Attorney General.
