Bank Charges: Discussion with Central Bank and ISME
2:40 pm
Mr. Bernard Sheridan:
One of the features of the current trend is that banks are moving in that direction. Some of them have already gone into that space and others are planning to do so. Therefore, the charges associated with manual transactions are likely to increase, while charges for electronic transactions will either stay where they are or reduce. These changes are in train in a number of banks. I am not sure which bank the Deputy is talking about, but he is likely see more of this in the future. On the previous point, we have also seen a trend where banks have come to us seeking increases in charges in order to recover costs rather than through the different channels they use.
