Question 358: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are a number of Garda patrol cars currently in Mullingar Garda station with more than 300,000 miles which are not being replaced; when these cars will be replaced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The allocation of Garda resources, including transport, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner to decide in accordance with his identified operational requirements and priorities. At Divisional level responsibility for the efficient deployment of Garda vehicles is a matter for the Divisional Officer.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are currently 18 Garda cars, consisting of both marked and unmarked vehicles, attached to Mullingar Garda station. In addition they have indicated that the current policing arrangements for the Division make the best use of resources.
